Steaming & Sparkling The Steamy Tap That Has It all

Cold, hot, boiling, sparkling and filtered water. It all comes out the same tap at Qurios Zandvoort. The tap is made by Quooker. And we’re proud of it; did you know that the Quooker is a Dutch invention? Sjaak Smit from Quooker visited us and enthusiastically explained the story.

4 o’clock Cup-a-Soup

Everyone in the Netherlands immediately knows what we are talking about: a cup of hot soup in an instant. Henri Peteri who worked at Unilever in the 70s wondered: “What good is that soup if I first have to wait 10 minutes for the water to boil?”

“As a physicist he was curious by nature. He decided to quit his job to became the inventor of a tap with boiling water.

Nobody had actually asked for it, but he was nevertheless going to make one. In the basement under his house, Henri Peteri became the founder of Quooker.”

"An average household wastes thousands of liters of water a year by waiting for hot water, because there is an average of 10 meters between the boiler and the tap. The Quooker boiling water reservoir, works more than 50% more efficiently than the average kitchen boiler.”

Dutch invention, world-class product!

“Today, Quooker is continuously working on the further development of the tap. For example, last year they introduced “The Cube”. You now can also draw cooled and sparkling water from the same tap. Now it’s really the tap that can do everything.”

The Cube has been chosen for the extra luxury statement cottages at Qurios Zandvoort.

Sustainability is a hot topic

Quooker is seen as a luxury product by many people. However, the energy consumption of a Quooker makes it a responsible choice in this time when we have to think about the generations that come after us. “

An average household wastes thousands of liters of water a year by waiting for hot water, because there is an average of 10 meters between the boiler and the tap. In the context of sustainability, that is something that is no longer desirable. The Quooker boiling water reservoir, which can also supply hot water, works more than 50% more efficiently than the average kitchen boiler.”

How safe is the Quooker?

“The Quooker is very safe. Yes, the boiling water in the reservoir is held at 110˚ celcius. But the double-walled spout, the double-pressure turning mechanism and the drop-shaped jet make it the safest way to prepare boiling water.

I always challenge people who don’t know the tap to try to get boiling water out if it “by accident”. But that really is very difficult. We pay a lot of attention to safety.

It is fantastic that the guests here at Qurios also get to experience our tap. The Quooker also looks very much at home in this natural setting.”
